Driven

Driven

– June 14, 2017 –

What does it mean?  Desire, ambitious, obsessed, passionately motivated toward a goal.

Aren’t those qualities we want and should have? Especially toward God. If we ”Delight ourselves in the Lord; He will give us the desires of our heart. Commit our way to Him, Trust Him also, and He will do it.” (Psalm 37:4-5)

This is tough, though! We as human beings are inherently control freaks. Delight means to experience great pleasure or enjoyment, which comes from knowing someone or something deeply. That takes commitment. “Commit our way to Him” means we have to make an effort. In today’s instant world, effort, much less commitment, is becoming an idea of past generations only.

God is still committed, all day, everyday, for eternity.  Hallelujah! Solomon said, “Let your heart be wholly devoted (committed) to the Lord our God…”(1 Kings 8:61) Paul noticed how people in Thessalonica who believed that Jesus would return “any day” didn’t have a future plan or work as hard daily. He said, “For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.”(2 Thes 3:11)

Brothers and sisters, commit to getting to know God. An Undisciplined life is idleness. We’ve all heard the phrase, “idle hands are the devil’s workshop,” it has its root right here in Paul’s words. I am learning how not having a daily plan leads my hands and my mind into idleness. Before I know it, another day is gone and I’m farther away from the dreams and goals that God has given me.

Idleness has its roots in fear. Fear that someone will point out that we’re not doing what we’re supposed to be doing. The cure for idleness is commitment to knowing God and learning His plan for you, then taking action towards that plan. God is a gentleman, He will reveal His plan, but He typically won’t force you to act on it.

Be driven and become passionately motivated to “…seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all things will be added to you.”(Matt 6:33)

Blessing to you today.
