Day 30 of God’s Love for Us
November 29, 2017
What is love? Is it just an emotion, or is it something more- an action? Love is a choice, and choice is an action. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God”(1 John 4:7NASB).
I heard a pastor say today, “…if you don’t love your neighbor, you don’t love God;” he went on to say, “If you have a problem with someone else (your neighbor), your relationship with God isn’t right.” He derived his statements from v8 “The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” Love is an action, a decision. The emotion that we feel comes from the decisions we make.
Who is your neighbor? Is it the person that lives next door, or is your neighbor everyone you see and come into contact with? I choose to think my neighbor is everyone. I can honestly say though, the hardest neighbor for me to love is the one I see in the mirror. This is because I tend to live in the past and only see myself by my poor decisions and actions. I am working on seeing myself as Jesus sees me – as worthy. “Love prospers when fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends”(Proverbs 17:9NLT). We need to forgive ourselves more fully and quickly to see ourselves as worth of Jesus’ sacrifice.
