It is well with my soul

It is Well with my Soul

– June 9, 2017 –

Good morning, I hope all is well with you. What I really mean by that is, I hope all is well with your soul. Our soul includes all the deep parts that make us who we are. The last line from Mercy Me’s new song “Even If” is “It is well with my soul, It is well, it is well with my soul.” Those lines penetrate  and resonate deep within me.

They are of course lines from an old hymn written by Horatio G.  Spafford in 1873 “It is well with my soul,” after learning that his four daughters had passed away in an ocean liner accident. These lyrics spawn from loss, yet announce loudly hope and faith.

Hope and faith come from God. God gave us these when He sent His son Jesus to bear the burdens of death on the cross to show the whole world, even still today, that we can know Him. Before Jesus, knowing God was through laws. When Jesus came, knowing God became having a relationship with Jesus.

In my NASB version of the Bible, Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”(Matt 11:28-30) There is hope and faith in that statement, sometimes a different version captures it better though.

The Message Bible says it this way, “Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill fitting on you.”(Msg Matt 11:29) There is a reassurance of what faith will bring with these passages.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, and the conviction of things not yet seen.”(Hebrews 11:1) Faith is therefore trust and belief that there is a plan in place. God has the plan for you and me, and everyone else on this earth as well. He holds us in the Palm of His hand.

I hope all is well with your soul my friend.
